Stanley Gorney

Grand Rapids Camera Club Hall of Fame 2001

Stanley Gorney joined the Grand Rapids Camera Club in 1983, one of the many distinguished photographers that joined that year.

Stanley and his wife, Vera, enjoyed camping, starting out in a meager tent, which then grew to a pop up camper and finally they enjoyed the comforts of their motor home. Their travels took them from Florida, across the US to Glacier National Park and back again. Stanley liked to take photographs of the beautiful landscapes and wildlife the encountered on their travel adventures.

Stanley is best remembered for his volunteer work for GRCC, helping set up print displays at various locations, setting up chairs and tables for the camera club meetings, helping speakers with their equipment and displays. He was involved with a number of committees, anything for the betterment of the club.

Stanley Gorney very rarely missed a camera club meeting in the sixteen years he was a member. He was an active competitor receiving a 3rd place in Class B for his nature and pictorial images, and by 1988 he earned his “Master Award” with 600 competition merit points for his slides. He also, served on the GRCC board for several years. He enjoyed the learning from other photographers and was a willing to share his knowledge with other members.
