PhoneOgraphy: Get the Best from that Camera in Your Pocket

Presented by Sandy Freed and Michael Koole

Are you comfortable with that powerful camera in your pocket? Our first program of the year will dive into ways that you can use that camera more productively.  We will learn about basic iPhone and Android camera operation and how the software and camera settings impact your images. Learn about third-party apps and even discover how to move your photos into editing software like Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

    About our presenters:

Sandy Freed has been selling Apple products for over seven years, and Michael Koole is a long-time Android user. Sandy has been shooting photos since 1974. After spending many hours printing black and white images, he began working with digital images in the 1990's as an advertising designer. After joining the GR Camera Club pre-Covid, he has become an enthusiastic member and is our current VP for Programming.

As a hobbyist photography enthusiast, Michael Koole uses photography to view the world differently.  Looking beyond the obvious, his goal is to see everyday items from a different perspective and understand the details that comprise the whole of the subject – to see deeper: Past the Physical, Beyond the Aesthetics, Down the Core of the Subject.  Michael’s approach has been applied across multiple genres and keeps the adventure fresh and new. Michael is a current Board member of the Club.

We look forward to seeing you!

Following our club meeting programs we have a short social break. We will conclude the meeting by showing the monthly Competition images..

Guests are always welcome, we suggest a $5 donation for non-members. Members are always free.

    The club meets at:

Grand Valley Artists Studio, 2661 29th St. Suite B, Grand Rapids, MI

  • Monthly Photo Talk Zoom Mtg

    Wed., September 23, 2026 7 p.m.

    JOIN THE MEETING

Do you have a photo that you would like to share with others?  Maybe you just want to brag about it a little bit, or you think it captures something that’s worth talking about?  Or perhaps you just want some ideas from others to help you edit it better?  Then GRCC’s Monthly Photo Talk Zoom meetings are for you. These are friendly discussions by people who enjoy taking and talking about photos.

This month, let’s start by talking about your favorite photos from the summer.  If you have a photo from this summer that you’d like to share with others, you are encouraged to do so.  As always, this is a suggestion, NOT a requirement!  You may also select a few other images you would like to share (max 3, including a summer photo) and be ready to share your screen (we recommend you put the images in a folder on your desktop or in your editing software for easy access)

If you aren't comfortable or are unfamiliar with how to share your screen you can submit your photos in advance - by emailing in .jpg format (maximum 2160 pixels on the long side) to Norbert Kugele at nfkugs@mac.com by the Monday prior to the meeting.  Depending on attendance, please understand we may not get to all of your images.

NOTE:Everyone is welcome. You do NOT need to share images in order to attend. If you prefer to just listen in and add your 2 cents worth to the conversation that is fine too . . . but the more participation we have the more we all learn!

Hope to see you at the September Photo Talk meeting!
