John Gaylord, "Olympic National Park" - The Grand Rapids Camera Club is excited to announce that John Gaylord from the River City Camera Club will be the guest presenter at our September meeting.
John has been taking photographs since purchasing a camera after graduation from college. On a whim the camera was acquired and the bug bit. Intrigued by images from Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and Eliot Porter capturing the natural world has always been a pastime and mostly taking a more radical approach. Influenced by the 64 club film was always slow and shutter speeds even slower. Forays into black and white lead to 2-1/4 format cameras and a darkroom. Digital has been great as the darkroom now comes to the computer and your desktop.
John also has had a love of nature since childhood. Being out in the woods is one of the great experiences of life. He has had the fortune of traveling to many beautiful places all over this planet. Our National Parks are a wonderful gift and everyone is different with its own beauty. Vacations have been dedicated on many occasions just to visit these unique destinations and many images of their beauty have been recorded. Olympic National Park is one of the most unique places in the continental US. John also is an avid outdoors man and has traveled the world building houses for Habitat for Humanity.
